What Is Pod’s EV Charger Subscription?

One of the biggest barriers for new EV drivers is the upfront cost of installing a home charger. While electric cars themselves are becoming more affordable through salary sacrifice schemes and competitive leasing offers, many drivers are still faced with paying £1,000 or more to install a charger at home.

That’s where Pod’s new EV charging proposition comes in.

Previously known as Pod Drive, Pod has now simplified its offering by giving customers two ways to access its smart home charging setup: paying upfront or spreading the cost through a monthly subscription.

Both options include the same award-winning Pod Point Solo 3S charger, professional installation, and access to Pod’s growing smart charging ecosystem.

What Does Pod Offer?

Pod customers can now choose between:

  • Paying upfront for the charger and installation
  • Monthly subscription payments over 36 months

Both options include:

  • A Pod Point Solo 3S smart charger
  • Choice of tethered or untethered unit
  • Which? Endorsed standard installation
  • Access to the Pod Rewards programme
  • 24/7 customer support

The aim is to make EV charging simpler, more flexible, and more affordable for UK households.

Pod Upfront Pricing

Customers who want to buy the charger outright can currently expect pricing from:

  • £999 for the untethered version
  • From £1,049 for the tethered version

This now includes a 3-year warranty covering both the charger and standard installation maintenance.

Pod Subscription Pricing

For drivers who would prefer to spread the cost, Pod also offers a subscription model.

Current pricing starts from:

  • £99 upfront
  • £34 per month for 36 months

Unlike the previous Pod Drive proposition, tethered and untethered units now share the same monthly pricing structure.

At the end of the subscription period, the customer owns the charger outright.

The subscription also includes:

  • 5 years total warranty cover
  • Enhanced support during the first 3 years
  • A 48-hour repair, replacement or recharge guarantee
  • An additional 2 years of standard maintenance support

This approach significantly lowers the upfront cost of installing a home charger, which could appeal to first-time EV buyers or households managing the cost of switching to electric.

What Is Pod Rewards?

All new Pod customers now gain access to Pod Rewards.

This smart charging rewards programme allows EV drivers to earn cashback by charging their vehicles during optimal times, typically overnight when electricity demand is lower.

According to Pod, customers can earn up to £100 per year in rewards through smart charging behaviour.

Unlike some EV charging incentives, Pod Rewards works with any energy supplier, although some smart tariffs may not currently be supported.

What Is Pod Power?

Pod also now offers access to Pod Power, an EV tariff powered by EDF.

The tariff includes 7 hours of off-peak electricity designed to reduce home EV charging costs.

For drivers without access to ultra-cheap overnight EV tariffs, this could help reduce running costs while simplifying the overall charging setup under one ecosystem.

How Smart Charging Works

The Pod Point Solo 3S charger supports smart charging functionality through the Pod app.

Drivers can:

  • Plug in their EV when they arrive home
  • Set charging schedules
  • Choose target battery levels
  • Optimise charging around cheaper off-peak electricity periods

Smart charging not only helps reduce electricity costs, but also supports the UK grid by shifting demand away from peak times.

Which Cars Are Compatible?

The Pod Point Solo 3S is compatible with most major EV brands sold in the UK, including:

  • Tesla
  • Kia
  • Hyundai
  • Nissan
  • BMW
  • Audi
  • Volkswagen
  • Polestar
  • BYD
  • MG

The charger is designed to work across a broad range of fully electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles.

Final Thoughts

Pod’s updated EV charging proposition reflects a wider shift happening across the UK EV market.

Rather than simply selling hardware, providers are increasingly focusing on complete charging ecosystems that combine installation, smart charging, energy tariffs, rewards programmes, and long-term support.

By offering both upfront and subscription payment options, Pod is making home charging more accessible to a wider range of drivers while keeping flexibility at the centre of the proposition.

That should be considerably more futureproof and commercially balanced while still supporting the partnership relationship.
