EO Genius 2 Full Review

EO Genius 2 Charging Capabilities

The EO Genius 2 provides flexible charging options, supporting both single-phase and three-phase configurations. It offers a maximum charging capacity of up to 7.2kW on a single-phase supply and up to 22kW on a three-phase supply. This range of power output is ideal for overnight charging in commercial and depot settings where multiple EVs may need to be charged simultaneously.

The charger is available in two configurations: a universal socket version and a tethered Type 2 cable version (5 meters).

EO Genius 2 Connectivity and Smart Features

The EO Genius 2 comes with several connectivity options, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Ethernet (Cat 5) as standard, ensuring reliable communication and control of charging sessions. For areas with limited network access, a 4G cellular connection is available as an optional extra.

It is also OCPP 1.6J compliant, meaning it is compatible with various back-office systems, providing integration options for charging management and billing. The charger is back-office agnostic, ensuring that businesses can integrate it with their preferred platform for smart charging solutions.

One of the standout features of the EO Genius 2 is its multiple load management options, which allow users to efficiently distribute power across multiple chargers at a site. Load management can be done locally or through cloud-based solutions, making it possible to optimize energy usage while preventing system overloads. For larger installations, the EO Hub can be used to connect and manage an unlimited number of chargers, further streamlining operations.

Billing and Security

The EO Genius 2 is equipped with an integrated MID meter, meaning you can get very precise energy usage monitoring. Businesses can restrict access and manage usage through the built-in RFID reader with support for EO-branded RFID cards and tags. This is really useful for multi-user setups where controlled access is necessary, such as in company fleets, public parking facilities, or apartment complexes.

EO Genius 2 Installation and Safety

One of the major advantages of the EO Genius 2 is its easy installation. It includes built-in open PEN conductor protection for both single-phase and three-phase setups, so no earth rods are required, which should save on the charger installation costs. The Genius 2 also features integral 6mA DC leakage protection (RDC-DD).

The Genius 2 is durable and built to withstand harsh environments, with a protection rating of IP54 (socketed) and IP56 (tethered) for water resistance. It also boasts IK08 impact protection, which means itโ€™s suitable for outdoor installations in both commercial and industrial settings.

The Final Word on the EO Genius 2

The reason we love the EO Genius 2 is because itโ€™s already โ€˜ISO 15118 readyโ€™, which means it will soon support Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology! This means you can use it for bi-directional charging between the EV and the grid, which lets cars pass power back to the grid when not in use, potentially lowering energy costs.

We also want to showcase that the Genius 2 can be easily upgraded to support solar charging with the use of additional CT clamps!
